Review : yet another redo of the Pantone system
As a cartographer working for print publication, the Pantone CMYK references are essential for me. They do wear out and go off-color, and when I went to buy a new set, was surprised to learn that the organization of colors and the CMYK values of many of them have been completely redone since the last edition. On the up side, the order of colors is now more logical. On the down side, there's no explanation, either with the set or online, of the new design philosophy.
Furthermore, because the values have been changed, there's now a big discontinuity between the current and past sets for reference purposes. Some people I work with are still using the old set-- very confusing. Pantone should do a better job of explaining what they're up to, and providing a bit of cross-referencing to the older system.
Further-- we now need to download new palette sets (or "color books" as Adobe calls them) to plug the new system into Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, etc. Thankfully,...
